Job introduction
IRCAD (Research Institute against Digestive Cancer) was founded in 1994 in Strasbourg, France by Prof. Jacques Marescaux, a surgeon fascinated by technology. IRCAD has since become a world leader in advancing and teaching minimally invasive surgery. The institutes of IRCAD France (located in Strasbourg) and IRCAD Africa (located in Kigali, Rwanda) have a world-leading and combined Surgical Data Science (SDS) team of approximately 30 individuals, whose mission is to improve surgery using computer technologies and machine learning. We are currently looking for a talented lead surgical data scientist to join this team, to play a major role in reaching our research objectives.

Role and responsibilities
Your responsibility as a Lead Surgical Data Scientist will be to assist in leading the research of various projects, centered on the creation of AI-driven technologies to improve the outcomes of surgery, for use in both western countries and Africa. You will be responsible for supervising junior SDS researchers centered in IRCAD Africa, proposing and testing novel algorithms, designing and executing formal clinical validation of the systems, helping create high-quality medical image datasets in collaboration with our annotation team, and publishing a selection of research results in top international journals and conferences. You will also dedicate some of your time to conducting your research, mainly focused on AI-based medical image processing, and work closely with the team’s research leadership.
Key requirements
- Ph.D. in machine learning, medical image analysis, or computer vision
- Proven track record of research excellence and peer-reviewed publications
- Postdoctoral research experience in academia or industry is highly desirable
- Involvement in the academic community (peer-reviewing, workshop organization, etc.) is desirable
- Strong experience in image processing and machine learning tools, particularly Pytorch and/or TensorFlow
- Experience in supervising junior researchers (Ph.D. students, Masters students, and/or AI engineers)
- Strong desire to improve healthcare, and especially surgery in Africa, using AI-based technologies

Terms of Reference (TOR) for Course Coordinator
Background
IRCAD Africa is a training and research center in minimally invasive surgery. The principal of IRCAD is to teach internationally the latest techniques in minimally-invasive image-guided abdominal surgery and to research new computer-assisted systems combining developments in software, artificial intelligence, and robotics.
Job Overview
We are looking for an experienced Course Coordinator to lead the development of IRCAD Africa courses in minimally invasive surgery initiatives through hosting creative training events and educational programs.
Responsibility
- Map out annual IRCAD Africa course training plans
- Design and develop training programs (outsourced and/or in-house)
- Market available training and provide necessary information about sessions
- Conduct organization-wide training needs assessment and identifies skills or knowledge gaps that need to be addressed
- Use known education principles and stay up-to-date on new training methods and techniques
- Design, prepare and order educational aids and materials
- Assess instructional effectiveness and determine the impact of training on surgeons
- Gather feedback from trainers and trainees after each educational session
- Partner with external stakeholders and liaise with experts/professors regarding instructional design
- Maintain updated curriculum database and training records
- Research and recommend new training methods
- Ensure that relevant accreditations are obtained and maintained
Our ideal candidate
Someone with strong business experience, ideally within a learning and training environment to include analysis, design, build, delivery, evaluation, and events management of a range of training programs.
Skills and qualifications
- Proven work experience as a Training Coordinator, Trainer, Training Facilitator, or similar role Hands-on experience coordinating multiple training events in a corporate setting
- Extensive knowledge of instructional design theory and implementation
- Adequate knowledge of learning management systems and web delivery tools
- Proven ability to complete full training cycle (assess needs, plan, develop, coordinate, monitor, and evaluate)
- Experience with e-learning platforms
- MS Office proficiency
- Advanced organizational skills with the ability to handle multiple assignments
- Strong communication skills
- Bachelor / Master’s degree in Education, Training, Business Administration, or related field

Terms of Reference (TOR) for an Accounting and Finance Manager
BACKGROUND
IRCAD Africa is a training and research center in minimally invasive surgery. The principal of IRCAD is to teach internationally the latest techniques in minimally-invasive image-guided abdominal surgery and to research new computer-assisted systems combining developments in software, artificial intelligence, and robotics.
FULL-TIME ACCOUNTANT DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Review and verify financial transactions to ensure accuracy;
- Preparing monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports for IRCAD Africa’s partners and arranging timely financial information for internal audits;
- Prepare IRCAD Africa payments and carry out control and filing of all payment documents, invoices, and other financial documents relating to IRCAD Africa transactions;
- Perform quarterly audits;
- Verify business expenditure reports.
FULL-TIME ACCOUNTANT REQUIREMENTS AND QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor’s degree or master’s in accounting or relevant field;
- CPA certification preferred;
- 5 years of experience in an accounting role, preferably in an NGO environment;
- Strong proficiency with standard accounting software, including QuickBooks;
- Understanding of basic accounting principles;
- Expert computer skills, specifically in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, etc.);
- Excellent communication and organization skills.
